Roy Bucher

Roy Bucher started his insurance career with Continental Insurance Company as a career trainee in January 1974. He later became an all-lines underwriter and after three years was transferred to the Roanoke office as special agent in charge of the Roanoke office. On the first day of his new job Charles Lunsford (Continental’s largest agent) and his wife Linda took Roy and his wife Susan to lunch and showed them around south Roanoke. At the end of the tour, he told Roy “You’re going to have a lot of offers, but don’t take any until you talk to me “. After 9 months working as special agent Roy came to work at Chas. Lunsford Sons & Associates, Inc. in marketing June 1, 1977. Roy specialized in writing insurance for schools, municipalities, manufacturing and construction. A few years later he was promoted to Vice President of marketing and sales and in 1985 became President of the agency. For the next 11 years the agency was part of AON the largest national broker in the world in which Roy was President of AON Virginia. After learning all he could about being a national broker he asked his old friend and business partner Charles Lunsford if he would help him buy the agency back. There was no hesitation and in June of 1995 Charles and Roy bought the agency back. Then fast forwarding to May, 2018 Chas Lunsford Sons & Associates, Inc. merged with Trustpoint Insurance and Roy became Chairman Emeritus.
